Tips to Keep Your Children’s Playroom Clean (and What Carpet Cleaning Has to Do with It)

Any home with children in it typically has a playroom or a space where toys are stored and children spend much of their time entertaining themselves. While playrooms are great additions to your home, they’re also famous for being cluttered and messy, especially if your children are very young and don’t understand the importance of cleaning up. This doesn’t mean, however, that you should sit back and never bother to deal with this common household problem. Nor should you simply allow your children’s playroom to fall into chaos and not even bother with carpet cleaning. Instead, consider our easy and pain-free ways to get rid of the clutter and dirt. The following tips should help you tame your children’s playroom clutter. And should you have any questions about the cleanliness of your home, call us at ServiceMaster Professional Cleaning and Restoration by dialing (610) 524-8003.

Use a Colored Storage System

If you can, get your hands on storage boxes and bins of different colors, and use them to help make cleaning up for your child fun and easy. For example, you can store toy cars and trucks in a red bin, and dolls and stuffed animals in a green one. If you like, you can also label these bins with pictures, or words to help your child learn to read. If you don’t want to buy or hunt down storage items, consider using stickers or other labeling options to help your child distinguish which play item should go where. Be sure to make it fun, rather than a chore.

Purge Old and Unused Toys

One problem that quickly leads to clutter is too many toys. With various gift-giving occasions throughout the year, especially when doting relatives show up with gifts for holidays, birthdays, or “just because,” your home easily “stocks up” on way too many toys and playthings. Think about the toys your child has outgrown or hasn’t played with in a year, and consider donating these or holding a garage to sell the items and bring in a bit of cash.

Clean the Floor Frequently

Carpets in playrooms get dirty, be it from foot traffic or spilled food. Frequent carpet cleaning (or Oriental rug cleaning if you happen to have one in the playroom), especially if it’s professionally cleaned, really helps with decluttering and sprucing up the room.
